Banff International Research Station
The Directors of PIMS and MSRI have presented a proposal establishing
a research facility dedicated to innovation and discovery in the mathematical
sciences. The Banff International Research Station (BIRS), with an Oberwolfach-style
infrastructure, will attract mathematicians from Canada, the United
States and around the world.
The Fields Institute applauds the initiative of PIMS and MSRI. The creation
of BIRS fill provide a research haven where leading mathematicians can come
together to pursue research in a retreat-like atmosphere.
The Fields Institute looks forward to working with MSRI and PIMS, along with
other Canadian mathematical organizations, in the development of BIRS and
its governance structure.
